the importantness of taking good oil samples

Systematic oil sampling gives you insight into how your Cat engine functions and enables early identification of possible problems,

allowing you to take preventive measures to prevent engine troubles.

10 RULES FOR TAKING A CORRECT OIL SAMPLE

1. Most important keep equipment clean, oil- and dust-free! If in spite of this oil dust or dirt does get in the vacuum pomp, clean the pump with a small amount of paraffin.
2. To avoid mixing up the bottles, when taking more than one sample at a time, write the name or number of the compartment on the bottle before you start sampling. Do this with the enclosed permanent marker.
3. Use a new section of hose with every sample to prevent contamination from one sample to another.
4. Cut a section of hose of sufficient length diagonally from the supplied roll. Put one end of the hose through the top of the pump (aluminum nut) and make sure it sticks through the black connection piece approximately 1 cm. Fix the hose in position by tightening the aluminum nut hand tight. Again, make sure the hose and pump are dust and dirt free. After this, screw a sample bottle over the hose into the back connection piece.
5. Remove the dipstick from the engine when the engine is stopped and make sure the dipstick pipe is clean. Insert the sample hose into the pipe over sufficient length and pump enough oil in the bottle to fill it for ¾. Unscrew the bottle from the black connection pieces and screw on a lit hand tight. Make sure the bottle is properly closed.
6. Remove the hose from the pump. Before doing so clean the hose on both ends with a clean cloth. This will keep your pump clean.
    

7. Fill in your sample label correct and complete. Suggestion: You van also do this on-line (in advance) and print the labels. The system will fill in a large part of the data for you, which prevents mistakes.

8. Place one filled sample bottle and a sample label in the fluid tight plastic postage bag. Carefully seal the bag by removing the adhesive strip at the blue edge. (for additional instructions, see the back of the bag)
9. To be able to quickly provide you with an analyses report, we need the samples in our lab as soon as possible. To do this, drop the sample in the nearest mailbox. Within The Netherlands, postage is not necessary. For samples posted outside of The Netherlands sufficient postage needs to be added.
10. The standard interval for taking a SOS sample for engines is 250 running hours, unless advised differently by Pon. Besides taking samples at the recommended intervals we recommend taking a samples just before and just after changing the oil.
